inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP) Criminal Investigation Unit, along with Bank Indonesia and elements of the Counterfeit Rupiah Eradication Coordination Agency (Botasupal), held a press conference and ceremonial destruction of counterfeit rupiah at Bank Indonesia Headquarters in Jakarta on Wednesday (5/13/2026).
In his statement, the Vice Chief of INP Criminal Investigation Unit, Inspector General Nunung Syaifuddin, emphasized that burning the counterfeit money demonstrates a shared commitment to maintaining the stability of the national financial system and protecting the public from the circulation of counterfeit money.
"We are committed to firmly taking action against all forms of currency crimes, from the manufacture, storage, and distribution of counterfeit money. From 2025 to April 2026, the counterfeit money discovery rate continued to decline, from 4 ppm in 2025 to 1 ppm in April 2026," said Nunung Syaifuddin.
He explained that the police have uncovered 252 counterfeit money cases between 2025 and 2026, with 1,241 suspects. From these uncovered cases, authorities secured evidence in the form of 137,005 counterfeit rupiah bills and 17,267 counterfeit dollar bills.
According to him, counterfeit money not only causes economic losses to the public but can also disrupt national economic stability and undermine public confidence in the rupiah.
"Counterfeit money not only harms the public economically, but can also disrupt economic stability and undermine public confidence in the country's currency," he said.
The counterfeit rupiah bills destroyed during the operation totaled 466,535 bills of various denominations. This evidence was recovered from banking operations conducted by Bank Indonesia between 2017 and November 2025, which were then handed over to the Directorate of Special Economic Crimes of INP Criminal Investigation Agency in accordance with non-judicial handling mechanisms.
Nunung reminded the public to be more careful when receiving cash and to immediately report to the police if they find or suspect counterfeit money.
