inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Central Papua Regional Police have uncovered the circulation of a hoax photo purporting to depict a victim of the riots in Dogiyai Regency. The Head of Public Relations of the Central Papua Regional Police, Superintendent I Made Suartika, stated that the photo, widely circulated on social media and messaging apps, has been proven to be unrelated to the recent events in Dogiyai.

"The spread of this false information has the potential to mislead the public and worsen the security situation in Central Papua," said I Made on Tuesday (4/7/2026).

He explained that a photo circulating on social media, posted by the KNPB News Nabire account and widely circulated via WhatsApp, purportedly depicts  the riots in the Dogiyai region.

After conducting a search on social media, Facebook accounts belonging to (LL) and (AP) were found, it was discovered that the circulating photo and documentation did not depict the incident in Dogiyai, but rather an incident that occurred in the Sanggeng area of Manokwari Regency, West Papua.

"This information is a hoax post that has the potential to mislead the public and worsen the security situation," the Head of Public Relations emphasized.

Furthermore, an image circulating on social media purportedly depicting a victim of the riots in Dogiyai on March 31, 2026, was also published in a Papuan media outlet on April 3, 2026.

However, upon further investigation, it was discovered that the photo was not a recent incident, but rather that the same image had previously been published in a Papuan media outlet on February 27, 2026.

"Therefore, the narrative that the incident in the image occurred on March 31, 2026, in Dogiyai is false (a hoax). The image is an old photo," said I Made.

He confirmed that the security situation in Dogiyai is currently safe and conducive, although authorities continue to increase patrols and surveillance to anticipate potential disturbances to public order and security.

The Central Papua Regional Police urge the public not to easily believe information from unknown sources, not to disseminate unverified content, and to work together to maintain a conducive security situation.
