The Indonesian National Police (INP) simultaneously mobilized humanitarian aid from several regional police units to assist communities affected by the earthquake in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), in the commemoration of Indonesian Independence Day on Monday (8/17/2026).
A total of 44 trucks and one box car were deployed carrying various basic necessities, including mineral water, ready-to-eat foods, milk, rice, instant noodles, biscuits, diapers, blankets, mattresses, sleeping mats, tarpaulins, clothing, medicine, and bathroom supplies. The police also deployed supporting equipment for the humanitarian operation, including generators, tents, communication devices, clean water facilities, field kitchens, and water treatment vehicles.
The Head of Public Information of INP Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, stated that the aid distribution was part of a series of police humanitarian operations that have been ongoing since the earthquake.
"On this Independence Day, we are mobilizing our aid simultaneously from various regions to assist our brothers and sisters in Flores. We are sending not only logistics but also supporting facilities such as field kitchens and water treatment facilities so that the needs of the people in the evacuation centers can be immediately met," said Trunoyudo.
The INP is also continuing to mobilize operational needs such as medicine, tents, Police Food Supplements (MTP), Watergen, water treatment facilities, field kitchens, generators, portable Wi-Fi, Wontech, and Starlink.
"We are looking at the community's needs holistically. They include food, clean water, temporary housing, healthcare, communications, and psychological support. Therefore, we are continuously adjusting our assistance and personnel based on the latest data from the field," said Trunoyudo.
According to preliminary data from the Integrated Command Post/NTT Regional Police, there are approximately 8,861 to 8,911 evacuees spread across 22 locations. This data is being updated continuously based on developments in the field.
Upon arrival in NTT, all aid will be coordinated through the NTT Regional Police and then forwarded to the police precincts in the affected areas. This distribution pattern ensures that aid reaches the communities more closely and is tailored to the needs of each evacuation site.
"We want this aid to not stop at the warehouse. It will be distributed to the affected areas and forwarded through the local police precincts so that those in need can receive it immediately," said Trunoyodo.
According to Trunoyodo, the aid distribution on Independence Day embodies the spirit of mutual cooperation and the police's concern for communities facing disasters.
