inp.polri.go.id - Serang. The Serang Sub-regional Police have explained the death of an inmate, identified as AN, a suspect in a theft case. The inmate was pronounced dead of a heart attack while being transported to a clinic.

The Head of Criminal Investigation of Serang Sub-regional Police, Police Senior Inspector Andi Kurniady Eka Setyabudi, provided a live update on the chronology and medical treatment provided to the deceased. 

Initially, on Tuesday, suspect AN complained of pain to officers on duty.

"In response to the complaint, the Serang Sub-regional Police Medical and Health team immediately provided initial medical treatment and provided the necessary medication," he said on Wednesday (7/8/2026).

That same day, coincidentally during a scheduled visitation for inmates, AN met and interacted directly with his family.

"During the meeting, AN complained of pain again and requested assistance from officers," he said.

Officers swiftly evacuated AN to the nearest clinic near the Serang Sub-regional Police. However, approximately 15 minutes after receiving treatment at the clinic, AN was pronounced dead by the medical team due to cardiac arrest.

​Furthermore, Andi Kurniady emphasized that the police had conducted an external examination to determine the cause of death. The external examination revealed no signs of violence, broken bones, or bruises on the deceased's body.

"However, the medical team found clinical indications of a heart attack, characterized by bleeding blood vessels in the eyes and discharge from the genitals," explained Andi.

​The police have also coordinated intensively with the victim's family to conduct a full autopsy. However, the family officially declined the autopsy as the body would soon be taken home for burial.
