inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Riau Islands Regional Police have named a non-commissioned officer (NCO), AS, as a suspect in an alleged assault case involving a fellow police officer at the NCO's dormitory, resulting in the death of one of the victims.
"So far, we have only named one officer as a suspect, namely Brigadier AS. However, we are still investigating the possible involvement of other personnel," said the Head of the Security and Profession Division of the Riau Islands Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Eddwi Kurniyanto, Tuesday (4/4/2026).
He conveyed that the Riau Islands Regional Police Chief expressed his condolences over the incident and emphasized that the case would be prosecuted to the fullest extent.
"On behalf of the Police Chief, we express our deepest condolences to the victim's family. We promise to process this matter firmly and will thoroughly investigate the perpetrators and those involved," Eddwi stated.
He explained that the incident occurred on Monday (4/13/2026) evening at around 11:00 PM at the NCO's dormitory or barracks in a low-cost rental apartment .
The incident began when the suspect called the two victims, saying that there was a violation of their voluntary service.
"The two victims were summoned to a room in the barracks to be questioned about voluntary service. At that time, the assault occurred, perpetrated by their senior," he said.
Initial investigations revealed that the assault was carried out without the use of tools, but with bare hands. "We have questioned eight witnesses, but only one is a suspect," continued Eddwi.
He added that no personal motive has been established between the suspect and the victims.
"We are currently securing the witnesses for further investigation and development. We will investigate whether there were other motives besides not participating in the voluntary service," explained Eddwi.
In addition to the criminal proceedings handled by the General Criminal Investigation Directorate, the Riau Islands Regional Police will also take ethical action.
