inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto warned that the world is facing a potential global crisis in three main sectors: food, energy, and water.
He emphasized that these three sectors are fundamental factors determining a nation's survival and safety.
"I have believed and disseminated the main points that I believe are the national safety list, and this has been confirmed by the UN in its Sustainable Development Goals. Several years ago, the UN predicted that the global crises would be a food crisis, an energy crisis, and a water crisis," President Prabowo stated on Wednesday (4/8/2026).
He added that this view aligns with the United Nations' projections through the Sustainable Development Goals.
Regarding the national situation, President Prabowo assessed that Indonesia generally does not experience water shortages and even tends to have abundant resources. However, he acknowledged that several regions, particularly in eastern Indonesia, still face limited access to clean water.
"In certain parts of our country, in eastern Indonesia, on certain islands, there are still water shortages, but we can overcome them because we have water," he said.
President Prabowo emphasized that water issues in Indonesia are more related to environmental management and sustainability. He also highlighted the practice of forest destruction that can trigger drought.
"We clear forests, we clear trees on the mountains, and ultimately, the water cannot be retained, resulting in drought," he said.
On that occasion, the President emphasized the importance of maintaining the balance of nature and strengthening national resilience in the food, energy, and water sectors to anticipate the risk of future global crises.
