Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Public Works has initiated a strategic water management plan to fill national dams to their maximum volume, aiming to safeguard food security against the "Godzilla" El Niño phenomenon.

"Our mitigation efforts involve maintaining peak water levels in reservoirs to sustain irrigation through extended droughts, bolstered by cloud seeding at river headwaters," said Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo, as cited by antaranews.com, on Saturday (11/4/2026)., 

The Ministry highlighted that key sites, such as the Gajah Mungkur Dam, can support agricultural lands until October 2026 if maintained at capacity. To prevent crop failure, the government is also deploying water pumps in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture while prioritizing the construction of tertiary irrigation networks. 

This resource allocation is a core directive from President Prabowo Subianto to ensure the 2026-2027 national food self-sufficiency targets remain on track despite extreme climate threats.
