inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Religion Affairs will deploy a network of counselors to educate families about parenting in the digital age, while also promoting the importance of suspending children's access to social media.

"We will immediately prepare an action plan to effectively protect children in the digital space," said Minister of Religion Affairs Nasaruddin Umar, Thursday (3/12/2026).

He stated that the deployment is a form of support for Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 concerning the Governance of Electronic Systems for Child Protection (PP TUNAS) and Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Regulation No. 9 of 2026, which suspends social media access for children under 16.

According to Nasaruddin, support for the implementation of PP TUNAS is demonstrated through strengthening moral values and digital ethics in all religious educational institutions to ensure the sustainability of child protection in cyberspace.

The Ministry of Religion Affairs will target the large educational ecosystem under its supervision. The primary focus of protection will include 10.4 million Madrasah students, 3.3 million Islamic boarding school students, and tens of thousands of students from religious schools of various faiths.

"We committed to fully supporting the PP TUNAS to safeguard our future golden generation. We are not only focusing on the technical aspects, but also on strengthening the moral and digital ethical 'fortress' for students in religious education environments," explained Nasaruddin.

He explained that his party’s support for strengthening digital literacy has actually been ongoing since 2025. The Ministry has held digital literacy training for 269,495 participants, including teachers, religious instructors, and preachers.

This training is designed to equip educators to assist children in distinguishing between beneficial and harmful content.

The Ministry of Religion Affairs is also innovating by integrating the digital ethics curriculum into religious subjects. The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is also being introduced through the "Santri Mahir AI" program and the creation of child-friendly educational content.

This step aims to ensure that children are not only "ready" age-wise but also possess the intellectual skills to begin interacting with social media.
