The Head of Public Relations of the Central Sulawesi Regional Police, Senior Superintendent Djoko Wienartono, stated that the case stemmed from information received from the public in January 2026, which was then followed up with an in-depth investigation.
He explained that the team conducted an in-depth investigation of one of the suspects, who was known to have traveled from Minangkabau International Airport to Soekarno-Hatta Airport before continuing on to Palu City.
"After confirming the perpetrators' movements, the team conducted surveillance and finally arrested them upon their arrival in Palu," he said, as reported by Antara on Monday (4/27/2026).
During a search of the location, he said, officers found 16 large packages of methamphetamine weighing up to 16 kilograms, hidden in the perpetrators' backpacks.
In addition, several mobile phones of various brands were confiscated and are suspected of being used for communication within the narcotics distribution network.
"From the initial interrogation, one of the perpetrators admitted to only transporting the illicit goods, acting as a courier," he said.
For their actions, the perpetrators were charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) and Article 132 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, as well as provisions in the latest Criminal Code, which carries a penalty of life imprisonment or the death penalty.
He also urged the public to continue to play an active role in providing information regarding narcotics distribution in their respective communities.
