Inp.polri.go.id - Palembang. The South Sumatra Regional Police concluded the South Sumatra Police Chief (Kapolda) Cup VI Badminton Championship in Palembang on Friday night (10/7/2026).

Held at the Drs. Warsito Badminton Hall within the Paakri Complex, the tournament marked the 80th Bhayangkara Day commemorations and set a record with an impressive turnout of 1,078 participants.

South Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Sandi Nugroho said that the tournament serves a strategic purpose that goes far beyond a simple physical competition, aiming instead to foster community ties and athletic discipline.

"This badminton championship is a space to nurture sportsmanship, brotherhood, and character building," Chief Sandi Nugroho said during the closing ceremony. "From this court, we hope to see the birth of high-achieving athletes who are disciplined, honest, and resilient, capable of representing South Sumatra and bringing pride to Indonesia on the national stage."

The open sports event showcased high inclusivity, featuring a diverse array of competitive categories that spanned multiple generations. Brackets ranged from Early Childhood Singles for young aspiring athletes to a specialized 90-Year Veteran Doubles class, drawing entry fields from local sports clubs, civilian government offices, and regional military branches.

The closing night featured a packed stadium for the Men's Corporate Doubles final match, which doubled as a strategic networking forum for regional leadership.

South Sumatra Police Head of Public Relations Senior Superintendent Nandang Mumin Wijaya added that the massive participation numbers reflect the achievement of the police force's community engagement strategy. He noted that the police force aims to present a balanced institutional face that pairs firm law enforcement with proactive public service and community integration.
