Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir on Saturday (6/12/2025) said the national sports industry is expected to become a significant driver of economic growth as the government targets a 5–8 percent expansion. 

Speaking at the Indonesia Sports Summit (ISS) 2025 in Jakarta, he stressed the need to strengthen purchasing power and investment to support long-term development. 

“We must turn the sports industry and sports tourism into real economic engines,” the minister said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Minister Erick noted the United States’ sports industry value of USD 417 billion as a benchmark and highlighted projections that the global sector will reach USD 602 billion by 2030. He also pointed to domestic momentum, including an estimated Rp 41 trillion annual growth in Indonesia’s sports industry and rising sports equipment exports.
