Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa announced on Friday (6/3/2026) that the government may adjust subsidized fuel prices if global oil spikes surpass the capacity of the state budget.

During a press briefing in Jakarta, he explained that while a price hike is a last-resort option, it remains on the table to prevent the budget deficit from swelling to a projected 3.7% of GDP should oil prices maintain a level of $92 per barrel.

"If the budget simply cannot sustain it, there is no other way but to share the burden with the public through a price adjustment," Minister Purbaya said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

To mitigate this, the Ministry is exploring the reallocation of non-essential spending.

Minister Purbaya highlighted secondary expenditures within the "Free Nutritious Meal" (MBG) program, such as vehicle procurement for service units, as potential areas for budget shifting to prioritize core public needs.

Despite Brent crude surging nearly 5% to $85.41 per barrel due to Middle East tensions, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources maintains that subsidized prices will remain stable through the upcoming Eid al-Fitr period while stocks are secured.
