inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Trade, through the Indonesian Trade Attaché in Washington, D.C., stated that Indonesian processed food products, including tempeh, recorded potential transactions of US$8.3 million, or approximately IDR 150.7 billion, at the Summer Fancy Food Show (SFFS) in New York, United States.

The Indonesian Trade Attaché in Washington, D.C., Ranitya Kusumadewi, stated that the exhibition has opened up opportunities for tempeh to become one of Indonesia's products with the potential to penetrate the US market.

"We continue to monitor various follow-ups from business matching conducted during the exhibition to ensure that potential transactions can be realized as export contracts. In addition to potential transactions, we see very high buyer interest in tempeh, along with the growing trend of plant-based foods in the United States," Ranitya said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday (7/31/2026).

Ranyta explained that, based on a series of business meetings with potential buyers, tempeh is considered one of the Indonesian products with the greatest potential for development in the US market.

This is driven by the growing trend of plant-based food consumption, fermented foods, and a healthy lifestyle, which has increased demand for plant-based products. This situation creates an opportunity for tempeh to become one of Indonesia's leading products (champion products) in the US market.

"The high buyer interest needs to be balanced with business readiness in maintaining production capacity, consistent supply, meeting quality standards, and strengthening packaging and marketing strategies. This way, the business opportunities created can continue to become sustainable exports," explained Ranitya.

At this event, the Indonesian Pavilion featured six entrepreneurs and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Products on display included coffee, cocoa and chocolate products, snacks, and instant noodles.

Healthy foods such as tempeh, coconut-based foods, herbs and spices, honey, palm sugar, and various processed foods were also on display.

The US is Indonesia's second-largest food export market after China. In 2025, the value of Indonesian food product exports to the US was recorded at US$5.97 billion, a 14.06 percent increase compared to the previous year's US$5.23 billion.

This value contributed approximately 10.1 percent of Indonesia's total food exports to the global market, which reached US$59.04 billion in 2025.
