inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Sub-Directorate of Violence Criminal Investigation of the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police has uncovered a case of serious assault involving an acid attack in the Pondok Melati area of Bekasi City. Investigators arrested R (49) as part of this investigation.
Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Regional Metropolitan Police, Senior Superintendent Budi Hermanto, stated that the perpetrator was arrested on Friday (4/24/2026) at around 10:00 PM on Ring Rudal street, Jatirahayu, Pondok Melati, Bekasi City.
"The perpetrator has been apprehended by the Sub-Directorate of Violent Criminal Investigation's Operational Team. The perpetrator is suspected of throwing a chemical liquid, suspected to be acid, on the victim and is currently undergoing questioning," said Budi in a statement on Tuesday (4/28/2026).
The incident occurred on Friday (4/17/2026) at around 11:00 PM, while the victim was at his food stall in the Jatirahayu area. Based on preliminary investigation results, the perpetrator came from outside the shop and then threw acid at the victim, hitting him in the body.
During this investigation, police also confiscated several pieces of evidence, including a motorcycle, a helmet, CCTV footage, a plastic bucket, and two plastic bottles.
For his actions, the perpetrator is being charged under multiple articles related to the alleged crimes of premeditated aggravated assault, aggravated assault, and/or simple assault, as stipulated in Article 469 paragraph (1), Article 468 paragraph (1), and/or Article 466 paragraph (2) of the Criminal Code.
"Investigators are still completing the case file and questioning the victim and suspect. We urge the public to remain calm and entrust the legal process to the police," said Budi.
