inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Lampung Regional Police Drugs Criminal Investigation Directorate has successfully thwarted the distribution of 15.7 kilograms of methamphetamine at the Bakauheni Port Seaport in South Lampung Regency.
"In this operation, officers arrested four suspects, identified as RN, VR, TS, and EC. All four are known to be from Tangerang and self-employed," said Lampung Regional Police Drugs Criminal Investigation Director, Senior Superintendent Dwi Handono Prasanto, Friday (4/10/2026).
He explained that the case stemmed from information received from the public regarding suspected narcotics smuggling from Sumatra to Java using an ambulance.
Following up on this information, the police team went to patrol and seek the aforementioned ambulance suspected of being on its way to Java.
"During an inspection of the Bakauheni Port Seaport area, officers observed a Daihatsu Luxio ambulance with license plate number B 1737 CIS passing through. No patients were found inside the vehicle, but four healthy men," he said.
The officers' suspicions grew after the four men were nervous during the initial inspection. Officers then searched the vehicle's cabin and found a bag containing 15 packages suspected to be methamphetamine.
"The evidence was found hidden under the rear seat of the ambulance. Based on the weighing results, the total weight of the methamphetamine seized was 15,739 grams," said Dwi.
In addition to the methamphetamine, officers also confiscated four Android cell phones and a Daihatsu Luxio ambulance used to transport the methamphetamine.
Based on the initial investigation, suspect VR is suspected of acting as an ambulance driver. Meanwhile, RN, TS, and EC are suspected of transporting 15 packages of methamphetamine from the Riau-Jambi border to Tangerang.
"They said they received a travel allowance of IDR 300,000. In addition, the other three suspects were promised wages ranging from IDR 10 million to IDR 15 million," he said.
Furthermore, Dwi stated that the economic value of the confiscated evidence is estimated at around IDR 22.5 billion. Of this amount, authorities estimate that around 60,000 lives could be endangered from drug abuse.
For their actions, the suspects are charged under Article 114 paragraph (2) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, in conjunction with related provisions of the Criminal Code and criminal adjustments. They were also charged with Article 132 paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics along with other related articles.
