TNI Denies Involvement in Fatal Shooting of A Child in Papua

Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian Military (TNI) clarified on Monday (20/4/2026) that its personnel were not involved in the fatal shooting of a child in Jigiunggi Village, Papua, refuting claims linking the death to a recent firefight.

"There were no TNI soldiers operating in Jigiunggi Village during the time of the reported shooting," said Lieutenant Colonel Wirya Arthadiguna, the spokesperson for the Habema Operations Command in a statement as cited by antaranews.com.

Official reports indicate that a separate clash occurred on 14 April 2026 in Kembru Village, where security forces shot four insurgents and seized homemade firearms after being ambushed. While a village head later reported the child's death in Jigiunggi, military officials said the incident happened in a different location.
