Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Defense said that the Indonesian Military (TNI) assisting police in addressing mugging cases in Jakarta is part of their non-war military operations (OMSP).
Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, the Head of Defense Information Bureau, explained Tuesday (26/5/2026) that law enforcement remains Polri’s primary responsibility. However, under OMSP, TNI is mandated to support local governments and Polri when needed.
“The Jakarta Military Command’s deployment aims to ensure public safety and comfort,” he said, as reported by antaranews.com..
TNI’s involvement includes joint patrols, community outreach, and preventive actions. Chief Rico emphasized that coordination with the INdonesian National Police (INP) is essential, as only police have authority to enforce legal measures.
“All actions must remain professional, coordinated, and humanist,” he added.
This initiative aligns with Minister of Defense Sjafri Sjamsoeddin’s program directing battalions nationwide to help protect citizens from crime. OMSP missions typically cover humanitarian tasks such as disaster evacuation, infrastructure support, and public health services.
