Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesian National Police (INP) Head of Traffic Corps Chief Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho said that Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE) is a key step in modernizing traffic safety, but human interaction remains vital.
“ETLE is a necessity, but our goal is not to increase penalties. We want voluntary compliance. Ideally, no one is fined—just a smile from traffic police means you are already obeying the rules,” he said during a meeting with online motorcycle taxi representatives in Jakarta on Tuesday (2/6/2026).
Chief Agus noted that traffic policing now prioritizes communication, education, and service rather than enforcement alone. Ojol drivers, he added, should serve as role models for safe road behavior given their daily presence on the streets.
The Traffic Corps is also developing a dedicated application to improve coordination with ojol communities. Combining ETLE technology with human outreach, police aim to reduce violations and accidents while strengthening public partnership.
