inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Culture Fadli Zon plans to make Tugu Koperasi area in Tasikmalaya, West Java, to be a vibrant cultural site.
"How can we transform the Tugu Koperasi area into a living heritage site, or a vibrant cultural site? This is where the cooperative spirit originates," he asked while attending the launch of the revitalization of the Tugu Koperasi area in Tasikmalaya on Sunday (7/26/2026), as part of a series of commemorations of National Cooperative Day.
"Cooperatives are now a priority for the President, and are mentioned in the Asta Cita goal, so we hope that in the near future the Tugu Koperasi area can be declared a national cultural heritage site," he said, as quoted in a ministry press release.
The launch of the revitalization of the Tugu Koperasi area as a cultural heritage site is part of the government's efforts to preserve historical areas while strengthening the cooperative-based people's economy.
The Tugu Koperasi area in Tasikmalaya City was formerly the site of the Tasikmalaya Regency Cooperative Center (PKKT), which was founded in 1934 by the pioneers of the cooperative movement in Tasikmalaya.
The PKKT Building was the site of the First Indonesian Cooperative Congress on July 12, 1947, which was later designated Cooperative Day.
However, the building was completely destroyed, and some of the documents from the First Cooperative Congress were lost during the Second Dutch Military Aggression in 1949.
Although the original building was destroyed, the location remains remembered as a significant landmark in the history of the birth and development of the Indonesian cooperative movement.
The Tugu Koperasi area is considered a symbol of the spirit of mutual cooperation and the nation's economic independence.
The revitalization of the Tugu Koperasi area aims to reorganize the area, which holds high historical value and revive the role of cooperatives as a pillar of the people's economy.
This effort focuses not only on physical improvements but also on strengthening educational programs and improving the economy of the surrounding community.
Through the revitalization program, the local government, together with relevant stakeholders, is working to transform the Tugu Koperasi area into a historical educational platform and a cultural tourism attraction.
