inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The severe traffic jam that occurred in the East Flood Canal (BKT) area on Monday morning (5/4/2026) and which went viral on social media was immediately handled by police.
Traffic flow, which had previously been severely congested, gradually returned to normal.
North Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police Chief, Senior Superintendent Erick Frendriz, went directly to the location to ensure the handling was effective. He personally led traffic management with personnel to ease the traffic congestion.
"We ensure the handling is carried out quickly and appropriately. Personnel have made arrangements, and traffic conditions are now starting to ease," said Erick.
In addition to handling the situation, he also appealed to the public to maintain traffic discipline. Road users are also asked to obey traffic signs and follow the directions of officers to avoid similar congestion.
North Jakarta Sub-regional Metro Police Traffic Unit Chief, Senior Superintendent Ridha Poetera Aditya, added that the congestion was caused by the diversion of traffic from the Bekasi-Cakung Highway, which is currently undergoing construction.
According to him, many motorists are choosing an alternative route through the Harapan Indah area, Medan Satria, Bekasi City. However, at the border point leading to Rorotan, there is a road narrowing or bottleneck, particularly around the bridge, which causes significant congestion during the morning rush hour.
"Vehicle volume has increased significantly from Bekasi to Jakarta, while road capacity at that point is limited, resulting in a buildup," said Police Commissioner Ridha.
