Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir has issued a firm mandate to purge the Indonesian sports ecosystem of sexual violence following high-profile allegations in the kickboxing and rock climbing communities.
"Our sports world must be clean from such practices," he said on Friday (13/3/2026), following an audience with national kickboxing athlete Viona Amalia Adinda Putri, who recently reported sexual abuse.
The Minister praised Viona’s courage in coming forward against a high-ranking official in the East Java Kickboxing Association, mirroring a recent case where several rock climbing athletes reported their former national head coach to the Indonesian National Police (Polri) Criminal Investigation Agency.
Minister Erick proposed severe sanctions for perpetrators, including a lifetime ban from all sporting activities, to ensure a deterrent effect.
