Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Over eight tons of salt (NaCl) were deployed for cloud seeding during a six-day Weather Modification Operation (OMC) across Jakarta from 25 to 31 December 2024 , significantly reducing rainfall intensity in the city.
“OMC has shown positive results in mitigating hydrometeorological disasters in Jakarta,” said Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Head Isnawa Adji on Wednesday (1/1/2025).
The operation involved 10 flights lasting a total of 19 hours and 36 minutes, dispersing 8,000 kilograms of NaCl. Data from GSMap satellites revealed rainfall in Jakarta during the operation ranged from 0 to 40 mm per day, with the highest rainfall recorded at 40 mm on December 25.
“Analysis shows OMC reduced rainfall intensity by 38% compared to GSMap predictions and 28% compared to GFS predictions,” Isnawa said, as quoted by antaranews.com.
