inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Communication and Digital says that there are 993,144 online gambling contents from October 20 to February 15 that have been taken down.
“This number is close to one million on online gambling alone, still not included in pornographic content and others,” says Meutya on Tuesday (2/18/2205).
Minister Meutya Hafid says that as of now her party is still communicating with various platforms as the success of the operation requires a solid collaboration with them.
However, Meutya noted that taking down the online gambling content is not enough as there needs to be more policies in resolving the issues.
She also stressed the necessity of support from various tech companies, including Google.
The Minister of Communication and Digital said that this firm action was also assisted by concrete steps, namely strengthening Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning the Second Amendment to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE).
Strengthening regulations is carried out by compiling child protection governance in electronic system organizers.
“This step is at it’s final stages. Yesterday we also reported this progress to the President. Hopefully in the near future he can announce this new regulation,” said Meutya.
Indonesia in 2020 was ranked 26th out of 30 countries in the world in the Child Safety Index on the Internet. But in 2023, Indonesia experienced a tremendous jump, rising to the second quartile category in the index.
“We obviously want to further improve our child protection policy in the digital space, therefore the government is currently doing its best effort,” concludes Meutya.
