inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Budi Gunawan asked the ranks of the Indonesian National Military (TNI), Indonesian National Police (INP), and the Prosecutor's Office to carry out a comprehensive eradication of the international human trafficking (TPPO) syndicate.
The appeal was called by the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs in response to efforts to handle 554 Indonesian citizens (WNI) who were victims of online fraud exploitation in Myawaddy, Myanmar.
"We will continue to pursue legal efforts against the perpetrators involved in this human trafficking network. The results of this assessment are very important to determine the follow-up steps in enforcing the criminal law on human trafficking which will later be handled by the police," said the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs on Tuesday (18/3/2025).
He said that the eradication of the human trafficking network is the government's commitment to handling the problems of Indonesian citizens who have been victims of online fraud or online scams.
Budi explained that through the assessment process, police investigators can conduct in-depth investigations into the methods of the perpetrators in recruiting their victims to become online gambling operators in the destination country.
"So later, from the victims who were successfully rescued, we can check which ones are the perpetrators and which ones are the victims, because it turns out that some of the Indonesian citizens who were evacuated were also perpetrators," said the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs.
In the future, his party requested that all related agencies and institutions strengthen supervision in the recruitment of workers abroad. This is done as an anticipatory effort to reduce the number of victims of human trafficking for Indonesian citizens in Indonesia.
"We have our TNI-INP force, and we will also involve intelligence units so that all parties can collaborate in handling human trafficking issues. In handling this issue, it requires strong collaboration from all instruments," said the Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs.
It is known that in the case of online fraud exploitation in Myawaddy, 554 Indonesian citizens consisting of 449 men and 105 women have been successfully evacuated and rescued by the Indonesian government.
