National Narcotics Agency (BNN) calls for the complete eradication of drug black markets during the 45th meeting of Heads of National Drug Law Enforcement Agencies, Asia, and the Pacific (HONLAP). “In overcoming drug issues, it is required international cooperation,” says BNN Chair, Petrus Reinhard Golose on Tuesday (10/24/2023). He also stressed that war on drugs could not be carried out by only one country. HONLAP discuss a range of issues regarding the appearance of new drugs (Nes Psychoactive Substances) that has been spreading around the world. World development post-Covid-19 and geopolitical change has presented big opportunities for drug black markets. Such cases are the fentanyl that spread in USA on 2022 that caused 110 thousand people died. “The world is now very much open for anyone, and the change of geopolitical could presents a potential of drug smuggling route diversion. So we have to cooperate,” says Petrus. He also highlights that the doors for most drug smuggler to Indonesia is by sea, but other drugs such as marijuana are still mostly produced within. According to BNN Chief, the highest drug confiscation by BNN until September 2023 are methamphetamine with total weight of 5.5. tons. “This also indicates there are many drugs that comes to Indonesia and we have to protect our state at all cost. Our prevention measures are focused in 10 provinces, with Bali included,” said Petrus. (ad/ay/pr/nm)
