Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) is rehabilitating 14 Indonesians deported from Turkey for alleged ties to foreign terrorist fighters (FTF).
BNPT Chief Commissioner General Eddy Hartono said on Thursday ( that these individuals were repatriated in late 2024 after being found near the Syrian border. “This is part of Indonesia’s cooperation with Turkey to repatriate its citizens attempting to join Syria,” he said.
Upon arrival, they were placed in a special facility in Sentul, Bogor, for health screenings and psychological profiling, particularly for women and children. The rehabilitation process includes collaboration with local administration.
BNPT’s deradicalization efforts, usually targeting convicted terrorists, extend to these returnees to facilitate reintegration. A vocational training center in Sentul also supports former terrorism convicts in rebuilding their lives.
“This initiative is part of our social reintegration strategy,” Chief Eddy added.
