inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) emphasized that collective monitoring of deradicalization partners is key to preventing them from returning to committing acts of terrorism or spreading radicalism.
A deradicalization partner is someone who has undergone a deradicalization process, which is a process to change the views and understanding of someone who is radical to become more moderate.
Deradicalization partners can be former terrorist convicts, individuals who have been exposed to radicalism, or anyone who has experienced a change in thinking and behavior towards a more positive direction.
In the Coordination of Strengthening Interoperability of Government Apparatus in Counterterrorism in Solo, Central Java, Wednesday (5/28/2025), Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Capacity Development of BNPT Brigadier General Wawan Ridwan said there is potential for former terrorist to return to their old acts.
"This is one of the challenges of the dynamics of terrorism that requires focus for all regional apparatus," said Wawan, as quoted from Antaranews in Jakarta, Monday (6/2/2025).
For that, he said, the former terrorist must be monitored together. When they are finally able to return to society, it is said that the public and the authorities must help them to find their identity.
He emphasized that self-identity search is needed so that deradicalization partners are not recruited again by their former groups in various new ways and commit their actions again. Thus, this condition is considered necessary to be watched out for together.
