inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police's (INP) Special Detachment (Densus) 88 Anti-terror Team arrested a suspected member of an ISIS-affiliated terrorist group, MAS (18 years old), in Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi, Saturday (5/24/2025).
The Information and Documentation Management Officer (PPID) of INP Densus 88 Anti-terror, Superintendent Mayndra Eka Wardhana in his statement in Jakarta, Sunday, revealed that MAS was active in a digital communication channel that spread content related to ISIS ideology, including encouraging people to bomb places of worship.
Based on the results of the investigation, MAS was also known to manage and actively send various uploads of images, videos, voice recordings, and writings containing ISIS propaganda in a WhatsApp messaging application group called "Daulah Islamiah" which was created since December 2024.
In that channel, he continued, there was a discussion regarding the law on the use of suicide bombs in the context of war that reflected the extremist teachings of ISIS.
Then the telephone number used by MAS was identified as the main manager of the channel.
Furthermore, he said that officers also secured a number of pieces of evidence, namely a motorbike and a mobile phone that were allegedly used for communication activities and the distribution of terrorist content.
He also said that MAS has currently been secured for further interrogation and investigation development.
Meanwhile, he said that Densus 88 is committed to continuing to eradicate terrorist networks, including those that utilize digital technology as a means of spreading radical ideology.
"Densus 88 appeals to the public to remain vigilant and immediately report to security forces if they find suspicious activities that have the potential to endanger public security and order," he said.
