The Pontianak Sub-regional Police Drug Criminal Investigation Unit foiled an attempt to smuggle crystal methamphetamine weighing more than 1 kilogram carried by a suspect with the initials MOBS (35), a resident of Tayan Ilir District, Sanggau Regency, during an arrest on Imam Bonjol street, South Pontianak.
"The arrest was made on Tuesday (5/27/2025) night at around 20.00 am, thanks to reports from the public regarding suspicious activity around the intersection area leading to the forest not far from Tanjungpura University," said the Pontianak Sub-regional Police Drugs Investigation Unit, AKP Batman Pandia in Pontianak, Wednesday.
Based on the residents' reports, the Pontianak Police Narcotics Investigation Unit immediately conducted an investigation. The suspect was finally arrested while passing by on a black motorbike with the police number KB 6825 NE, wearing a sweater that matched the characteristics reported.
According to him, evidence of crystal methamphetamine was found hanging on the suspect's motorbike. After being interrogated, the suspect admitted that the goods belonged to someone named Herman who asked him to deliver them to the Sintang area.
"The suspect's confession was that he was promised a wage of IDR 150,000 per gram. If the 1 kilogram 10 grams of crystal methamphetamine could reach its destination, then he would receive a payment of around IDR 150 million," he said.
Currently, Herman is still being pursued and has been included in the wanted list (DPO). Communication between the suspect and Herman was done via cell phone, but the contact number used is currently inactive.
Batman emphasized that from the success of this disclosure, his party estimates that as many as 80 lives have been saved from potential drug abuse.
"This is thanks to the active role of the community in providing information. We appreciate and continue to appeal to the public not to hesitate to report if they find suspicious activities, especially those related to narcotics distribution," he said.
The suspect is now being charged with Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 112 paragraph (2) of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, with a minimum prison sentence of 6 years and a maximum of 20 years and a fine of up to IDR 10 billion.
