Inp.polri.go.id - Manokwari. Yeremias Foumair, former separatist leader of Greater Sorong region, pledged loyalty to Indonesia on Thursday(15/5/2025)  in Kampung Fuog, Maybrat, Southwest Papua.

The ceremony, led by Kasuari Military Commander Lieutenant Colonel Yahya Wisnu Aryanto, was witnessed by local officials, community leaders, and Yeremias' family

Yeremias said that his decision was driven by a longing to reunite with family and a desire for a peaceful life.

“I now realize violence brings no change,” he said, as quoted by antaranews.com.

Kasuari Military Command Head of Information Center Colonel Syawaludin Abuhasan noted Yeremias had spent years in hiding with the separatist group. His return adds to a growing list of former separatist members choosing peace, which Chief Syawaludin attributed to a persuasive, community-based approach.

The government has reaffirmed its open-door policy for those wishing to reintegrate.
