Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Coordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra revealed that Indonesia has yet to execute 300 death row inmates, partly due to diplomatic considerations involving foreign citizens.

“Executing foreign convicts affects Indonesia’s relations with other countries. There are also humanitarian concerns, as many seek clemency from the president, delaying executions,” he said on Thursday (6/2/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

Minister Yusril emphasized ongoing coordination with the Attorney General’s Office, which holds the authority to carry out executions.

Recently, Indonesia has transferred some foreign death row inmates, such as Filipina’s Mary Jane Veloso and French national Serge Atlaoui, back to their home countries.

Before such transfers, Minister Yusril said he formally notified Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, clarifying that the repatriations were approved by President Prabowo Subianto to prevent executions in Indonesia.
