Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining its military personnel (TNI) in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), underscoring its dedication to global peacekeeping efforts.
“Indonesian peacekeepers will continue their mission under the guidance of the UNIFIL Force Commander, prioritizing their safety and security,” said Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Rolliansyah Soemirat in a statement on Friday (22/11/2024).
As the largest troop contributor to UNIFIL, Indonesia currently deployed 1,230 personnel to southern Lebanon. The government continues to coordinate with relevant parties to ensure their well-being amid the ongoing mission, Soemirat emphasized.
The statement follows Argentina's recent decision to withdraw its forces from UNIFIL due to safety concerns, as confirmed by UN Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix.
During the G20 Summit in Brazil, President Prabowo Subianto reinforced Indonesia’s peacekeeping commitment in discussions with UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
