Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Indonesia and Ecuador advanced their commitment to combating drug trafficking during a meeting between the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Chief Commissioner General Marthinus Hukom and Ecuadorian Ambassador Luis Arellano Jibaja in Jakarta.

The partnership, established in 2022, focuses on intelligence sharing, joint training, legal assistance, and improving drug detection capabilities. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was finalized in September 2023 but faced delays due to Ecuador’s internal situation.

"This visit provides an opportunity for both countries to enhance information exchange, improve drug detection technology, and strengthen law enforcement capabilities," Chief Marthinus said in a statement on Wednesday (5/3/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.

In February 2024, Ecuador’s former ambassador has highlighted the MoU’s importance. BNN now seeks to accelerate its signing to enhance bilateral cooperation.
