Inp.polri.go.id - Jeju. Indonesia and South Korea are considering a partnership to promote renewable energy and waste management in school environments, following a bilateral meeting between Indonesia’s Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu'ti, and Jeju Province Governor Oh Young-hun.

Held on the sidelines of the 7th APEC Education Ministers’ Meeting on Tuesday (13/5/2025)), the discussion focused on utilizing solar and other renewable energy sources to power schools in remote Indonesian regions with limited or no access to electricity.

“Many areas in Indonesia still lack electricity. Renewable energy could play a crucial role in supporting schools in these locations,” said Minister Mu'ti, as quoted by antaranews.com.

The two sides also explored cooperation in school-based waste management to foster environmental awareness among students. Minister Mu’ti cited a pilot waste initiative in Bontang, East Kalimantan, as an example of existing efforts.

Governor Oh expressed strong interest in sharing Jeju’s renewable energy model and implementing similar initiatives in Indonesia. Minister Mu’ti welcomed the proposal, adding that such collaboration could align with Indonesia’s green school programs.
