Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has demanded clarification from Timor Leste after an Indonesian citizen was shot during a land dispute near the border in East Nusa Tenggara on Monday.
The victim, identified as Paulus Oki from Central North Timor (TTU), sustained a rubber bullet wound to his right shoulder.
“The Indonesian Embassy in Dili immediately requested clarification from Timor Leste’s Foreign Ministry, while Ambassador Okto Dorinus Manik inspected the site and coordinated with local authorities,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela said on Wednesday (27/8/2025), as quoted by antaranews.com.
Military officials have confirmed the incident occurred in Inbate, Bikomi Nilulat subdistrict, during a clash between Indonesian and Timor Leste residents over contested land. Police at the scene found eight shell casings and one projectile, allegedly from Timor Leste’s border patrol unit.
The Foreign Ministry assured that the victim has received medical treatment. The case was the second recent shooting of an Indonesian near the Timor Leste border this month.
