inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The 2024 Lilin Operation which was held to secure the Christmas and New Year Holiday Season is officially over on Tuesday (1/2/2025).
This operation has been ongoing since December 21st, 2024, involving thousands of joint personnel from the National Police, the National Armed Forces, and various other agencies.
The Head of Operation Lilin 2024, Inspector General Aan Suhanan, said that 132,327 personnel were deployed in this operation, along with the establishment of 2,794 security posts to ensure the smooth running of community activities during the long holiday.
"We are grateful that the crime trend during this operation has shown a decline. From the previous 14,000 cases last year to 13,000, or down around 5 percent," said Inspector General Aan in a press conference at the NTMC Building, Indonesian National Police (INP) Traffic Corps, South Jakarta, Thursday (1/2/2025).
Not only that, the traffic accident rate has also decreased. INP recorded a decrease in the number of accidents from 2,842 incidents to 2,497, with the fatality rate decreasing by 13 percent compared to the previous year.
"We are also grateful that the fatalities due to accidents have also decreased. There has been a decrease of up to 55 people from last year," he explained.
The surge in vehicles during the holiday season also became a concern. On December 21st, 195,000 vehicles were recorded leaving the Greater Jakarta area, while the peak of the return flow occurred on December 29th with 189,000 vehicles returning to Greater Jakarta.
"The various efforts we have made, including security on arterial and toll roads, have resulted in the smoothness felt by the public during the homecoming and return flows. This is thanks to the result of hard work by all parties," concluded Inspector General Aan.
Operation Lilin 2024 has succeeded in creating safer and more comfortable conditions for the public during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, while also showing an increase in security and safety indicators compared to the previous year.
