Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. The Indonesian National Police (INP)'s Water and Air Corps has uncovered 72 cases of destructive fishing during a 60-day enforcement operation held from 24 February to 24 March 2025., leading to the arrest of 101 suspects and prevented potential state losses of up to Rp 49 billion.
“This action is not only about law enforcement but also about protecting marine ecosystems and preventing illegal exploitation of ocean resources,” said Brigadier General Idil Tabransyah, the Director of Water Police, over the weekend.
The operation involved over 45 vessels across high-risk regions. Offenses included blast fishing, use of poisons, illegal gear, and electric shock devices. Seized evidence included detonators, ammonium nitrate, fishing boats, diving equipment, and tons of illegal catch.
Perpetrators face up to life imprisonment or Rp 10 billion in fines under the Fisheries Law and the Emergency.
