Inp.polri.go.id - Makassar. The Ministry of Agriculture is operating with zero days off as the government accelerates its push for national food self-sufficiency, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman said.
“There are no holidays. President Prabowo has instructed us to shorten the self-sufficiency target from four years to three, and now to just one year,” he said during the inauguration of the Hasanuddin University Alumni Association Board in Makassar, as reported by antaranews.com on Sunday (16/11/2025)
The minister described the compressed timeline as both a challenge and an opportunity to showcase Indonesia’s agricultural capabilities. Minister Amran said global confidence in Indonesia comes from measurable progress, not political slogans, noting he regularly tests discipline and performance in the field.
Indonesia’s rice output for 2025 is projected to reach 34.77 million tons, or up 13.54 percent from 2024, according to the National Statistics Agency (BPS). The FAO has assessed Indonesia as having the potential to become the world’s second-largest food producer after Brazil, while the U.S. Department of Agriculture has also forecast higher rice yields.
