Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Papua Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius Fakhiri, has moved swiftly to deploy Mobile Brigade (Brimob) personnel to Oksibil in response to heightened violence linked to the armed criminal group (KKB).
"We will soon deploy Brimob personnel to reinforce security in Oksibil," he said during an interview with antaranews.com on Wednesday evening (20/9/2023).
The decision comes after a series of KKB-related shootings, attacks, and arsons earlier on Monday and resulted in casualties, including the loss of Damai Cartenz Task Force First Brigadier Rudi Agung Ashari.
During these incidents, the team was ambushed while patrolling the Serambakon area on Monday . The KKB also shot at local resident, causing two injuries. On Tuesday, the KKB attacked civilian officials from Pegubin Regency Office, injuring them.
With the violence escalating, General Fakhiri emphasized the urgency of restoring and securing the region by deploying Brimob to Oksibil.
He explained that the KKB faction claiming to be Kodap 35 Bintang Timur was previously active in nearby Kiwirok but extended its disruptive activities to Oksibil and surrounding areas after the situation improved in Kiwirok.
"The Indonesian Military and INP work to restore security in Oksibil and its vicinity while holding wrongdoers accountable," General Fakhiri asserted. (mg/inp/pr/nm)
