Inp.polri.go.id - Jayapura. The Papua Regional Police has launched a corn planting initiative across 22.5 hectares to support food security in the region.

Supervisory Inspector of the Papua Police, Senior SuperintendentJeremias Rontini, said on Friday (24/1/2025)  that planting will take place across multiple Papua Police working areas, including 100 hectares in Jayapura, 30 hectares in Keerom, and 276 hectares in Merauke.

He emphasized the importance of collaboration with relevant agencies for the distribution and sale of the harvest, as current market prices are lower than the government's set price. "

The price is around Rp 3,000-3,500 per kg, while the government’s price is Rp 5,000-5,500 per kg. This issue needs joint effort," Chief Jeremiah said, as reported by antaranews.com.

The nationwide initiative, involving the Police, Ministry of Agriculture, and several private and public entities, aims to plant 1 million hectares of corn, supporting President Prabowo Subianto’s food security vision.
