inp.polri.go.id - Kupang. The joint team of the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Regional Police Marine and Air Directorate and the West Kupang Sector Police successfully evacuated a body of a male floating in the waters of Lalendo, West Kupang District, Kupang Regency, Tuesday (6/10/2025).
The NTT Regional Police's Marine and Air Director, Senior Superintendent Irwan Deffi Nasution, says the team of Marnit Teluk Kupang Crew Ship initially received a distress call at 07.30 am. the chronology of the discovery of the body.
Irwan says that the body was a male of 45 years old and has the characteristics of the body when it was found were wearing black shorts and having tattoos on the chest, left arm, and right arm.
According to witness Daniel Teramahi (34 years old), a fisherman who is also a close relative of the victim, Thamrin is known to be his co-worker on the skipjack tuna boat. Daniel also revealed that the victim had recently been experiencing depression to mental disorders, often walking without direction, and doing activities as he pleased, even often harming his ownself.
The joint SAR team managed to evacuate the body at 10.00 am and took it to the NTT Regional Police Headquarters, before being evacuated further to the Titus Uly Kupang Hospital at 10.20 am for further examination.
"The temporary conclusion of the forensic team is that there were no signs of violence on the victim's body. The victim most likely died from suffocation due to lack of oxygen, indicated by the blue color of the lips and fingertips. However, to find out the exact cause of death, an autopsy needs to be performed with the permission of the family," explained Pol. Irwan Deffi Nasution.
The victim's family has received the results of the external examination and stated that the body is ready to be returned to the funeral home for burial.
The case of the discovery of the body will then be handled by the West Kupang Sector Police.
