inp.polri.go.id - Surabaya. Highway Patrol Unit (PJR) of East Java Regional Police Traffic Directorate, together with the East Java Provincial National Narcotics Agency (BNNP) thwarted an attempt to smuggle seven kilograms of crystal methamphetamine on the Surabaya-Mojokerto Toll Road, Saturday (10/5).

Head of the East Java Regional Police Traffic Directorate's PJR Unit, Superintendent Hendrix Kusuma Wardhana, said that the case was uncovered based on information received from the East Java BNNP regarding a vehicle suspected of carrying crystal methamphetamine.

"Initially, we received information from the East Java BNNP that there was a car carrying narcotics passing through the Surabaya-Mojokerto Toll Road on Friday (5/9/2025). We immediately took steps to intercept it," he said when confirmed in Surabaya, Wednesday.

The joint team conducted a blockade at the Warugunung Toll Gate (GT) on Saturday at 04.35 am and stopped the suspected vehicle, a white Isuzu Microbus with police number DK 7214 AB.

From the results of the examination, officers found seven packages of crystal methamphetamine weighing seven kilograms hidden in a cardboard box under a pile of clothes.

The evidence was found during a search at the PJR Jatim 3 main office.

Officers then arrested a man with the initials R (57), a resident of Gunung Barat Hamlet, Waru Barat Village, Waru District, Pamekasan Regency, Madura. The perpetrator is suspected of being a courier of crystal methamphetamine from a Malaysian network.

"We initially obtained the information from a public report. After we investigated it together with the East Java BNNP, we managed to stop the target vehicle and found the evidence," said Hendrix.

He added that the case is currently under investigation and further development by the East Java BNNP to uncover other perpetrators' networks.

"We will continue to coordinate with the BNNP to uncover a wider network," he said.

The East Java Regional Police and BNNP appreciate the role of the community in providing information that greatly assists efforts to eradicate drugs in the East Java region.
