inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Minister of Immigration and Corrections (Imipas) Agus Andrianto said that information from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China (PRC) in Indonesia regarding 44 cases of extortion by immigration officers is a momentum to improve.

"We are grateful for the information from the PRC Embassy regarding the behavior of members in the field, and we will continue to improve for the good of immigration institutions, including in correctional institutions," said the Minister of Imipas on Monday (2/3/2025).

Meanwhile, the Minister of Imipas emphasized that his ministry will always be open to criticism and suggestions as long as they can be accounted for.

Therefore, he admitted that he was grateful for the information from the PRC Embassy regarding 44 cases of extortion against Chinese citizens by immigration officers that occurred at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

"If the PRC Embassy had not informed us, we would not have known. With this, we are grateful as we can take corrective steps immediately, and this is a warning to the ranks of service units to work responsibly in carrying out their duties," said the Minister of Imipas.

Previously, an official letter from the PRC Embassy in Indonesia dated January 21st, 2025, and addressed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was circulated regarding the extortion case against Chinese citizens that occurred at Jakarta International Airport or Soekarno-Hatta International Airport.

The PRC Embassy stated that they had resolved at least 44 extortion cases with a total of around IDR 32,750,000.00 which was returned to more than 60 Chinese citizens.

"This is only a small part of the many extortion cases because there are still many more Chinese citizens who do not file complaints due to busy schedules or fear of retaliation when entering the destination country," the PRC Embassy wrote in the letter.
