Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. President Prabowo Subianto, speaking at the National Development Planning Meeting (Musrenbangnas) in Jakarta on Monday (30/12/2024), criticized judges for giving light sentences to corruptors, particularly in cases causing significant financial harm to the state.

“People understand. Someone steals hundreds of trillions and receives only a short sentence,” he said, urging Attorney General ST Burhanuddin to appeal such verdicts.

The President called for harsher punishments to reflect the seriousness of corruption, suggesting sentences of up to 50 years for major offenders.

He also instructed Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto to ensure no special treatment is given to corrupt convicts in prison, such as access to air conditioning, refrigerators, or televisions.

“This is a collective failure. Let’s clean up ourselves before the people take matters into their own hands,” he warned, as reported by antaranews.com..

The criticism comes amid backlash over a recent case where Harvey Moeis, convicted of corruption causing Rp 300 trillion in losses, was sentenced to just six years in prison—half of the prosecutors’ 12-year request. The Attorney General’s Office has filed an appeal.
