Inp.polri.go.id - Malang. The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) has announced a temporary closure of Mount Semeru’s hiking trails from 2 to 16 January 2025, due to anticipated extreme weather conditions at the beginning of the year.
"The closure is based on evaluations and weather considerations for early 2025," said TNBTS Head Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraja on Monday (30/12/2024).
This decision, outlined in Announcement No. PG.12/T.8/TU/KSA.5.1/B/12/2024, aims to prioritize visitor safety and comfort during potential hazardous conditions. The final departure for hikers is allowed on 31 December 2024, with the last return date set for 1 January 2025.
"This step is a precaution to avoid any risks and ensure visitors' safety," Rudijanta explained, urging the public to comply with the regulations and avoid illegal hiking activities.
TNBTS Administrative Officer Septi Eka Wardhani confirmed that no hiking tickets have been sold for the January closure period, as reported by antaranews.com.
Mount Semeru’s trails had only recently reopened on 23 December 2024, after being closed for five years. The reopening was approved by the Ministry of Forestry, coordinated with the Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG), with restrictions limiting hikers to the Ranu Kumbolo area and capping daily permits at 200 hikers.
All groups must be guided by certified Semeru Mountain Guides.
