Inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta.  The Asian Development Bank (ADB) considered that the US’s 32% reciprocal tariff will not significantly affect Indonesia’s economy.

Nguyen Ba Hung, the ADB’s Southeast Asia economist, explained that Indonesia’s exports to the US account for only around 2% of its GDP. “Qualitatively, we don’t see the impact being as serious as feared,” he said during the ADB’s April 2025 outlook webinar on Wednesday (9/4/2025).

Indonesia’s economy remains heavily supported by domestic consumption and investment, limiting exposure to external trade shocks,  he added.

Nguyen added that the US tariff decision stems from Indonesia’s sustained trade surplus with the US. However, it’s still too early for ADB to assess the quantitative impact of the policy on Indonesia’s 2025 GDP, according to antaranews.com.

On 2 April 2025, President Donald Trump announced increased tariffs of at least 10% on multiple countries, including Indonesia. The White House listed Indonesia eighth among nations facing new tariffs, with a 32% rate imposed on its goods.
