inp.polri.go.id - Jakarta. Member of Commission IX of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Netty Prasetiyani Aher, appreciated the government's responsiveness to the spike in Covid-19 cases in several Asian countries, while also encouraging the government to take proactive and educational steps to protect the public.
"The increase in Covid-19 cases in Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong should be a warning alarm for Indonesia. Although domestic cases have decreased, we must not be careless," said Netty in her statement, quoted by Antaranews, Jakarta, Tuesday (6/3/2025).
This was conveyed by Netty in response to the issuance of a circular letter (SE) from the Ministry of Health regarding vigilance against the spike in Covid-19 cases in several Asian countries.
According to Netty, the anticipatory policies contained in the SE of the Ministry of Health deserve to be appreciated. However, she also emphasized the importance of implementation in the field, especially in strengthening the early detection system, case reporting, and public education.
"A circular is not enough if it only stops at the bureaucratic desk. There needs to be acceleration of cross-sector coordination to the level of frontline health facilities in the field," she said.
Netty also highlighted the importance of an effective public communication strategy so that the public does not panic, but remains alert.
"Education about the importance of clean and healthy living behavior, the use of masks for those who are sick, and awareness to immediately check themselves if they have symptoms, must continue to be intensified," said Netty.
Netty also asked the Government to start monitoring at border gates, entry and exit of people/citizens, ports, and airports.
Furthermore, she reminded the Government to continue to prepare the health service system, including the availability of facilities, medical personnel, and personal protective equipment (PPE) in case of a sudden spike in cases.
