Inp.polri.go.id - Banda Aceh. A group of 116 Rohingya people was stranded at Kuala Ujung Perling, Desa Paya Peulawi, East Aceh, after their boat reportedly suffered damage and nearly sank.

They, rescued by local fishermen, reached the shore early Saturday morning (30/11/2024)at around 3 am local time, according to antaranews.com.

Syamsul Bahri, the Head of the Political, Governance, and Security Division at the East Aceh Regional Agency, confirmed that the group included 32 men, 46 women, 15 boys, and 23 girls. Authorities are currently documenting their details.

"Kuala Ujung Perling is about a three-hour journey by fishing boat from Desa Paya Peulawi. The fishermen stepped in to save them," Syamsul said.

In addition to this group, 47 other Rohingya people remain at a temporary shelter in Peureulak Timur. These are part of a larger group of 230 migrants who arrived earlier this year. Most others have either fled the shelter or been relocated.

The UNHCR and IOM are supporting the migrants' needs, but Syamsul urged for more suitable housing solutions, as the current shelter is an open field.
