"A joint team from the West Sumatra BNNP together with the Payakumbuh BNNK and the West Pasaman BNNK has successfully thwarted an attempt of 1.5 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine smuggling from Aceh Province," said Head of the West Sumatra BNNP,  Ricky Yanuarfi in Padang, quoted by Antaranews on Tuesday (5/14/2025).

Ricky said that the disclosure of this case began with the  information obtained by the West Sumatra BNNP Intelligence and Eradication Team on Monday (5/12/2025), regarding a plan to send crystal methamphetamine from Aceh Province using an Antar Lintas Sumatera (ALS) bus.

Following up on this information, the joint team conducted intensive surveillance on the border between North Sumatra and West Sumatra. At around 07.36 WIB, the ALS bus suspected of carrying the perpetrators crossed the border area.

From the search conducted by officers, packages of crystal methamphetamine were found hidden in various places on the perpetrator's body using a disguise.

In addition, the joint team also secured other evidence, namely one account book and three ATM cards, five mobile phones, and one brown wallet.

"Based on initial information from one of the suspects, the crystal methamphetamine came from someone in the Bireuen area, Aceh," he said.

The suspects were charged with Article 114 Paragraph (2) Jo Article 112 Paragraph (2) Jo Article 132 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, with a maximum penalty of the death penalty.

"We will not give any room whatsoever for the illicit trafficking of narcotics in the West Sumatra region," he said.

The West Sumatra BNNP emphasized its commitment to continue eradicating the illicit trafficking of narcotics and inviting all elements of society to jointly save the nation's generation from the threat of drugs.
