inp.polri.go.id - Garut. The Garut Sub-regional Police Narcotics Investigation Unit arrested 20 suspects in a narcotics, psychotropic, and addictive substances (narcotics) distribution and abuse case uncovered during June-July 2026 in Garut Regency, West Java.

"We have investigated 20 individuals, all male, who are dealers or couriers," said Garut Sub-regional Police Vice Chief, Police Assistant Superintendent Deny Rahmanto during a press conference in Garut on Monday (7/20/2026).

Deny stated that the uncovered narcotics and illegal drug trafficking cases occurred in several locations in Garut between June and July 2026.

The investigation, he said, resulted in the arrest of 20 suspects in 13 cases: nine narcotics cases, one psychotropic drug case, and three health crimes.

He stated that the seized evidence included 106 packages of methamphetamine weighing 78.1 grams, 113 packages of synthetic tobacco weighing 639.43 grams, 20 packages of psychotropic drugs containing 60 tablets, and 139 packages of certain medications totaling 844 tablets.

"The suspects come from various professional backgrounds, ranging from laborers, self-employed, traders, students, and the unemployed," he said.

He mentioned that a particularly striking incident in the case was the modus operandi employed by one of the suspects, distributing synthetic tobacco while selling fried tofu balls from a cart.

The tofu ball vendor, he said, was forced to sell synthetic tobacco to generate profits, while continuing to sell tofu balls to cover up his crime of selling the intoxicating substance.

He said that in other cases, the drug trafficking method involves attaching the illicit goods to unknown locations.

Deny emphasized that his team will continue to take firm action against the illicit trafficking of narcotics and hard drugs, and thoroughly investigate their suppliers to protect the younger generation from the influence of drugs.

"This demonstrates our commitment to protecting the public, especially the younger generation, from the dangers of drug abuse," he said.
